Robertson County occupies a stretch of north-central Tennessee along the Kentucky border, with Springfield as its county seat and governmental hub. The county’s judiciary operates within the 19th Judicial District, which it shares with neighboring Montgomery County. Five types of courts handle cases locally: the Circuit Court (including criminal divisions), the Chancery Court, General Sessions Court, Juvenile Court, and six municipal courts spread across the county’s incorporated cities. Each court generates its own body of records—criminal dockets, civil filings, domestic relations orders, probate files, and more—and each is maintained by a designated clerk’s office. Whether you need to verify a pending matter, pull a certified copy of a judgment, or trace the history of an estate proceeding, locating the right office and understanding its procedures is the essential first step.
Tennessee residents and the general public can search for court records through a combination of official clerk offices, in-person courthouse visits, and electronic tools. The Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts provides statewide court information and rules, while TennesseeCourts.us may assist users in identifying courts and locating publicly available case data. Locally, the Robertson County Circuit Court Clerk’s office maintains an online public records portal at robertson.tncrtinfo.com, where anyone can look up docket entries, case statuses, and hearing dates at no charge. The Chancery Court’s Clerk and Master office handles probate, domestic, and equity matters and can be contacted directly for record inquiries. For records held by law enforcement, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and Springfield Police Department each operate records divisions that respond to public requests.

Are Court Records Public in Robertson County?
Tennessee provides broad public access to court records under two overlapping legal frameworks.
Tennessee Public Records Act (T.C.A. § 10-7-503). This statute establishes a right of public inspection for records held by governmental entities, including courts. It requires records custodians to make documents available during regular business hours and permits copying upon payment of applicable fees. The Robertson County Courts have adopted a formal public records policy that outlines how to submit a records request to the Circuit Court and General Sessions Court. Requests must be directed to the designated Public Records Request Coordinator.
Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34.Rule 34 specifically governs access to court records. It affirms that the public has the right to inspect records maintained by Tennessee’s courts unless an express exception applies. Under Rule 34, court records encompass case records, administrative records, and judicial records—including dockets, exhibits, orders, judgments, and filings.
Records exempt from public access include:
- Juvenile court records (governed by T.C.A. § 37-1-101 et seq.)
- Adoption records and sealed files
- Medical and mental health information contained in court files
- Unpublished drafts of judicial orders and opinions
- Records sealed by court order or protective order
- Attorney-client privileged materials
- Records specifically exempted by other state or federal statutes
Under the Tennessee Public Records Act, the standard copy fee for black and white copies is $0.15 per page (8½ × 11 or 8½ × 14). The Chancery Court Clerk and Master’s office charges $0.50 per page for physical copies and $5.00 for certification with seal, based on the court’s published fee schedule. Certified copies of records generally carry an additional certification fee beyond the per-page charge.
